‘Married To The Music’ documentary by Gero Berberian will be shown during IndieCork.

Countdown is on for IndieCork

Lights, camera, action! The start of this year’s IndieCork film festival is just days away.

The festival opens on Sunday with 'Juliette In Spring,' a French comedy-drama which has charmed festival audiences recently. Directed by Blandine Lenoir, it will screen on at The Arc Cinema.

27 countries from across the world will be represented at this year’s IndieCork film festival, as well as arecord number of entries from Cork city and county.

Of the short, feature, and documentary films, 30 are from filmmakers with Cork connections. The festival also has a wide reach worldwide, with an impressive six programmes of international short films in competition, from countries such as Haiti, Kosovo, Palestine, Austria, The Philippines and Indonesia, amongst others.

The festival continuously attracts international filmmakers to Cork and Ireland. One such director is Frédéric Pelle from France who returns to IndieCork after several visits, with his new feature, ‘A Bee In His Bonnet.’

Also visiting is Franc Dumij from Croatia, who represents his music film Funk YU screening at The Pavilion on Thursday 10 October. This is part of a strand of music documentaries that also includes 'We Come Alive,' which follows Irish band The Stunning, and a new UK documentary, 'Married To The Music,' about ‘the first lady of house music’, Sam Divine. Director Gero Berberian is also attending.

Another documentary at the festival is ‘Call Me Mule' by director John McDonald, who will fly in from Seattle for his screening. This multi-award-winning film tells the true story of a man who has chosen to wander across the USA with his three mules in tow, harking back to a quieter and slower time, reminiscent of the Old West.

Commenting on the upcoming festival, Mick Hannigan, Co-Director of IndieCork, said: “It’s a really exciting programme and we’re welcoming international guests from France, USA, Italy, Croatia, Portugal and Scotland. These include filmmakers, but also festival directors and programmers, invited to IndieCork to view the latest Irish film talent.

“Curating the programme each year is a huge privilege and it’s great to once again work with the team at the beautiful Arc Cinema, and our great sponsors Blacknight Solutions, it simply would not happen without their support.”

IndieCork also presents a music and sound programme, and partners with the Contemporary Music Centre and Screen Guild Composers of Ireland with events taking place at The Pavilion and Civic Trust House. The festival features a return of ‘Reaction,' a partnership with the Contemporary Music Centre (CMC), which sees CMC members play live improvised music to short films. In addition, there are talks, workshops and networking events, in partnership with National Talent Academies and Culture Ireland.

The festival runs from 6-13 October. For tickets, see cork.arccinema.ie or for more information, visit indiecork.com.
