Carrigaline dual player honoured
It’s been a remarkable season so far, and there’s possibly more to come for the hurlers and footballers from Carrigaline.
Winners of their respective leagues earlier in the year, last Sunday they were crowned Senior A football champions and next week they are bidding to complete the double as they play Watergrasshill in the Premier Intermediate Hurling Final.
Fitting then that dual player Kevin Kavanagh should be the deserving recipient of the 96FM/C103 GAA Sports Star of the month award for September in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel.
Kevin was a key player throughout the season but unfortunately injury has ended his season but he was delighted to be honoured. “Obviously it is very disappointing to be injured but it’s all about the team and hopefully we can complete the double and my thanks to players and management for their hard work all year.”
County Board Chairman Pat Horgan congratulated Kevin on his well deserved award and wished him a speedy recovery from injury and extended best wishes to Carrigaline in the hurling final, Pat also paid tribute to 96FM/C103 and Rochestown Park Hotel (RPH) for their continued support of Cork GAA and the promotion of these very prestigious awards.
Tom Tobin of RPH and Kieran McGeary of 96FM also congratulated Kevin and wished Carrigaline continued success for the rest of the season.
Many of Kevin’s teammates, still in celebratory mood were in attendance as was Club Chairman Philip O’Reilly and Francis Kenneally PRO Cork County Board.
There is still a lot to play for before the dust settles on this year and a few more awards will be honoured ahead of the gala banquet in the Rochestown Park Hotel who have been outstanding supporters of these awards on 31 January at which the overall award winner will be announced.
On the night, the Kieran O’Driscoll Youth Award and the Donal Lehane Distinguished Career award winners will be honoured.
