Have a very Blarney Christmas this year!

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s that magical time when our thoughts turn to gifts—finding the perfect presents for your friends and family.

I don’t know about you, but I cherish both the joy of unwrapping gifts and the excitement of giving them.

Miss Holly always says there’s nothing like seeing someone’s face light up when they open a thoughtful gift. I couldn’t agree more.

For some of my friends, we have a lovely tradition of exchanging handmade items. My friend Agnes, a true artist, spoils me every year with her creative handiwork.

With others, I love the hunt for unique thrifted treasures like classic cook books or vintage liquor glasses.

This week, I thought it would be fun to share my festive shopping guide for Blarney and beyond—a little roadmap to some of my favourite spots that help make Christmas shopping a joy rather than a chore.

Living in Blarney has its perks, especially when it comes to local gems perfect for Christmas shopping.

First up on my list is Horgan’s, right at the Square next to the Muskerry Arms.

Every year, I send Christmas ornaments to friends abroad, and Horgan’s is my go-to for beautiful pieces like Tipperary Crystal, fine china, and delicate tea sets. The selection is always exquisite, and you’re guaranteed a lovely chat, adding that extra bit of fun to your shopping experience.

Next, if you’re looking for stunning handmade jewellery, Findings next to the Blarney Castle Hotel is a treasure trove. The craftsmanship is simply breathtaking—perfect for that special gift with a personal touch.

And, of course, no festive shopping trip would be complete without stopping by Blarney Woollen Mills. Whether you’re on the hunt for cosy sweaters, traditional crafts, or charming décor, it’s a place where Christmas comes alive.

We all know the holiday season can get a little stressful, so treating yourself or a loved one to some well-deserved pampering is essential. For a bit of TLC, Guilty is more than just a hair and nail salon—it’s an oasis for aesthetic treatments like microdermabrasion, semi-permanent make-up, and fillers. They also have an excellent team of hairdressers (shoutout to Grace and Dave!) but I am a huge fan of Sinead’s in Cloghroe. She knows my hair and my (limited) styling skills well and always sends me home with a look I can keep up (at least for a while).

For thrifting enthusiasts, the Vincent de Paul shop in Blarney is a must-visit. You never know what delightful finds await you.

And for those social moments with friends or family, Blarney has some fantastic spots to gather. The Muskerry Arms hosts regular live music gigs that are perfect for getting into the holiday spirit. Johnny’s at the Castle Hotel serves up delicious food that’s sure to please any palate, while the newly opened Sika Café & Wine Bar offers a cosy ambiance for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

When it comes to beauty gifts and festive cosmetic sets, Pharmacy First Plus in Tower has a superb selection.

And if your shopping adventures take you into Cork city, Bradley’s is an absolute gem for all things food-related. Michael’s craft beer hampers are legendary, and his collection of wine and whiskey will make any connoisseur’s eyes light up.

And who could forget the iconic English Market, filled to the brim with gourmet goodies perfect for holiday feasts?

And in case you have no plans for Sunday 24 November, why not pop into the secondary school in Blarney where we will be holding this year’s Christmas Craft Fair where you will be able to find handmade unique items and meet the creators?

I will be around all day, so pop in to say hello – something you won’t get online.
