‘Jim is a true trailblazer’

Cork Chamber has announced Jim Barry, Managing Director of Barry Group, as the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Business Award 2024.

Presented at Cork Chamber’s Dublin Dinner, the award celebrates Jim’s profound impact on Irish business and recognises his significant achievements in developing Barry Group into a powerhouse in the Irish wholesale distribution market.

Under Mr Barry’s leadership, Barry Group has transformed from a local family-run operation into one of Ireland’s leading wholesale distributors. His pioneering strategies, including the launch of Quik Pick, alongside key acquisitions and innovative expansion, have positioned Barry Group as a cornerstone of the Irish grocery trade.

Cork Chamber President, Rob Horgan, commented on Jim’s remarkable achievements.

“Jim Barry exemplifies the values and vision that fuel sustainable business growth. His ability to expand Barry Group from a local enterprise to one of Ireland’s top wholesale distribution companies is a testament to his dedication, foresight, and commitment to excellence. This is a shining example of the importance of ensuring the right environment for our ambitious SMEs to invest, grow and scale.

“Ireland has a lot to offer as a base from which businesses can expand, and we must remain determined to enhance that offering at every opportunity. Jim is a true trailblazer, and this recognition is richly deserved.”

Cork Chamber CEO Conor Healy added: “Jim’s leadership and innovation have set a high standard for the Irish business community. His entrepreneurial drive, deep-rooted in a respect for family legacy and community, is inspiring.

“Jim has created value not just within his own company but also for the entire wholesale and retail industry.”

Mr Barry expressed his gratitude. “While this is a personal achievement, it is great recognition for Barry Group and family business alike. Having spent my professional career in our family business, I am delighted to represent our past, present, and future when receiving this award.
