A festive feast at Nano Nagle
It’s going to be a December to remember at Nano Nagle Place this year with a huge line-up of festive events starting today!
From this evening (Thursday), beloved holiday classic ‘A Christmas Carol’ returns to the beloved Cork city venue for four days.
There will be six shows altogether between now and Sunday, with evening shows each day at 7pm. There will also be matinee performances at 3pm this Saturday and Sunday.
Created by Oceans of Notions Productions, in collaboration with Nano Nagle Place, this most festive of experiences invites you to step into Charles Dickens’ iconic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, where ghosts of past, present, and future reveal the heart-warming power of redemption.
The production promises an immersive journey through Victorian London, filled with captivating performances, haunting carols, and a rich soundscape that will leave audiences enthralled. Kieran O'Leary leads the cast as Scrooge, under the expert direction of Judie Chalmers, while singer Nicole McDonagh enchants audiences with traditional early Celtic, medieval, and Victorian carols.
Tickets are on sale via the Nano Nagle Place website or Eventbrite for €15 plus fees.
This Saturday from 11am-4pm, Nano Nagle Place will host the Cork City Book Fair. The fair will see Munster-based book dealers showcase a range of literature covering everything from Cork’s history to Irish interest titles, spanning military, social, and natural history, offering something for every taste and budget.
Continuing the celebrations, Nano Nagle Place invites one and all to an Evening of Winter Classical Song on 10 December. Presented by Cork Opera House and featuring the Cara O’Sullivan Associate Artists, the event will transform the stunning Goldie Chapel into a haven of operatic beauty.
The festive cheer continues with the Lantern Crochet Ladies Christmas Market on 15 December, featuring a stunning selection of handcrafted crocheted gifts. The event ties in with Nano Nagle Place’s Christmas Craft Markets which are open on 14, 15, 21, and 22 December.
Local artisans will showcase their unique, one-of-a-kind creations in a warm, festive atmosphere, offering the perfect opportunity to find special holiday gifts. Shoppers are invited to stop by Café Nádúr where they can warm up with spiced mulled apple and indulge in freshly baked cakes —perfect for getting into the holiday spirit.
Anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season can enjoy a peaceful visit to Nano Nagle Place’s award-winning museum, while families with young children can also explore the Christmas Trail and Activity Corner designed to bring festive fun and learning together as they journey through the museum and grounds.
