Storm Éowyn: Tree fall 'like a bomb going off'
A woman in North Cork has described the terrifying moment a tree came crashing through the roof of her house during Storm Éowyn.
Angela Ducey and her family were in bed in their home in Killavullen last Friday when she heard a sound “like a bomb going off”.
“The house shook and I shot out of the bed,” Ms Ducey told ‘The Neil Prendeville Show' on Cork’s RedFM.
“My husband was gone up the stairs and he goes to me, ‘Oh no, Angela, don’t go up there’.
“The water started running through the top of the house, then down through all the ceilings and the bedroom,” she added.
Ms Ducey, whose young daughter has epilepsy and suffers between 20 and 40 seizures a day, had opted to have everyone sleep downstairs for safety during the storm.
The tree that fell on the house had stood on a neighbour’s land and Ms Ducey told ‘The Neil Prendeville Show’ that she had asked “time and time again” if anything could be done about the tree, which she described as being 60 or 70 feet tall.
She and her family were evacuated by fire brigade to the Hibernian Hotel in Mallow to see out the storm.
