Leopard print is spot on
I hadn’t been to town in ages but I’m styling for a spring campaign at the weekend so off I trotted to town the other day to get inspired for the new season ahead.
It’s that time of year where we can almost think about wearing footwear that’s not a pair of boots and I’m almost ready to brave a pair of Mary Janes during the day but I’ll be styling them with sparkly, red or burgundy socks for an added bit of warmth.
There are so many fab footwear options out there for spring and while loafers are everywhere, I just can’t bring myself to wear them. There is just something so wildly unflattering about them, and they will not be on my new season shopping list.
Instead, I will be wearing a faux snake skin flat pump that elevates any look and with its combination of neutral tones goes with so many things. I especially love snakes skin paired with one of this season’s hottest colour trends, pistachio.
I bought a beautiful pistachio coloured jacket from & Other Stories a few years ago and I love to bring it back out in spring and give it a new lease of life every year. It looks great worn with a grey knit and light-coloured denim and this year I will style it over a cream circle skirt and the snakeskin pumps.
Speaking of animal print, I caved on my spending ban the other day and purchased a leopard print jacket from H&M. It’s a mid-length style with a thick fabric belt that I will use to nip in the waist and create some shape, but I reasoned that leopard is here to stay.
I am a lifelong leopard fan so will wear it forever and it’s a formal enough shape that I can wear it belted over black trousers and a simple t-shirt for work. I think we can conclude that this is in fact an investment piece for my wardrobe!
The high street is still awash with leopard print so now really is your chance to add it into your wardrobe as little or as much as you like. One outfit idea in my head is to style a simple shirt dress but use a silky leopard scarf to add some interest to the look and finish it off with gold accessories.
Throw a blazer over the top and this would be such a chic city break look. Speaking of blazers, one way of updating for spring is to belt or tie a scarf around the waist of your jacket. While silhouettes may be going oversized especially for workwear, there is an emphasis on creating shape at the waist.
As someone who absolutely adores colour and interesting colour combinations, I was heartened to see plenty of colour making an appearance and as I mentioned before I’m absolutely crazy about pistachio. It’s such a flattering colour, perfect for spring and looks dreamy when paired with another favourite colour of mine which is lilac.
This combination is spring in a nutshell and looks super expensive when work together. I’m also very much here for the renaissance of powder pink and wear now in early spring with your burgundy pieces to help you transition over to spring summer when you can wear the colour head to toe or style it with white.
Light blue and brown are another combination that’s perfect for now and means you can wear some of your autumn/winter browns with a lighter spring summer colour. This season it’s all about expressing your individuality so get that colour wheel out and play around with your favourite colour combos.
