Up to 80 green jobs announced for Cork

A leading energy consultancy firm has announced plans to recruit 200 people in Ireland over the next two years, with approximately 40% of the roles expected to be in Cork.

The jobs announcement comes as part of independent energy expert and assurance provider DNV’s plans for a major expansion of its Irish operations.

The 80 or so jobs coming to Cork will be in engineering, environmental science, and decarbonization advisory and are expected to be filled by 2027.

Headquartered in Norway, DNV operates in more than 100 countries and is an independent expert in risk management and assurance. It currently has an office at City Gate, Mahon, Cork city.

The company’s Irish expansion plans also include the full integration of Dublin-based Enviroguide Consulting into DNV.

Enviroguide will now operate as DNV, offering expanded services in a range of environmental services including biodiversity, circular economy, and Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) compliance to its clients in Ireland.

With the expansion, DNV will now be able to deliver its full portfolio from its Irish office.

Welcoming the news, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says: “The decision to choose Ireland as a location for DNV's operations and their future is a vote of confidence in our highly skilled workforce and our commitment to sustainability.”

Hari Vamadevan, Executive Vice President and Regional Director, UK & Ireland, Energy Systems at DNV, said: “DNV's Irish office is pivotal in providing independent energy expertise and technical guidance, aiding industries and governments in navigating the complex transitions within both global and regional energy sectors.”

A global leader in providing independent energy expertise and technical advisory services, DNV plays a pivotal role in the maritime and energy sectors, notably providing comprehensive services to the renewables, oil and gas, and energy management industries.

In Ireland, DNV is particularly focused on supporting the country's transition to a low-carbon energy system. This includes increasing the adoption of renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and leveraging digitalization and artificial intelligence to enhance the energy sector's performance.

Also commenting on the announcement was CEO of IDA Ireland, Michael Lohan who said: “Sustainability is a key focus for IDA Ireland, and we are delighted to support investments that align with our commitment to fostering sustainable development.

“DNV’s expansion in Ireland is a testament to our country’s attractiveness as a hub for innovative and environmentally conscious businesses.’

Janet O'Shea, Operations Director in Ireland, Enviroguide (DNV), added: “With our increased footprint and access to global experts, together we can achieve more; our biodiversity and environmental expertise will further enhance DNV's ability to provide comprehensive solutions that support sustainable development and address global challenges.”
