Dresses are easy to wear and take very little styling
Well spring has certainly sprung this past week and what a difference the sunny weather and brighter days are making to everyone’s mood.
Now if it could only stay like this a little bit longer as I am off on a staycation to the sunny south east this week and I have packed as if I’m off to the south of France. I’m nothing if not eternally optimistic so as you read this, I am either basking in the sun delighted with my clothing choices or quite rain sodden and nursing a red wine indoors.
Such is the holidaying in Ireland, outfit packing lottery. With the better weather comes a re-evaluation of my wardrobe and I’m pulling out all my summery bits and seeing what I’ll carry forward this season.
One of the items I’ve packed is a dress and I really feel like I haven’t worn dresses in absolutely ages. I’ve taken against wearing tights, so it makes the winter wearing of a dress problematic. However, with the legs bared I am ready to embrace the dress and easy summer styling. Dresses are so easy to wear and take very little styling to make the outfit look complete. I’ve packed a fab little number to wear out to dinner for my holidays, it’s a green and navy floral dress with a v-neck that I bought in Dunnes Stores last year and has such a Rixo feel to it but for an absolute fraction of the price which is always a bonus. It’s very flattering, easy to wear and it has…pockets!
Not that I ever use my pockets but it’s still the holy grail of design features when it comes to a dress. I like a floaty midi style for a dinner date, and I’ll be styling with some gold heels, gold jewellery and I also will tie a navy print silk scarf around my neck to give a 70’s glam feel to the look. I also love a more casual, throw on dress for day wear and there are so many styles and options out there to suit every taste, body shape and budget.
Last year I purchased a very simple red, cotton dress with a slight dip at the back and that had a very interesting ring detailing at the side. It is quite loose and breathable and would be perfect to throw over swimwear on holidays with basic sliders, but you could also pair with a simple black heel for nighttime. The versatility of the dress is what I love about it most and you can easily transition most dresses easily from day to night.
If there’s one dress I absolutely wholeheartedly recommend everyone invests in for the summer it’s a white dress.
As someone who dirties white the moment I put it on I will always take the risk and wear a white dress. Whether you go for a mini or a more loose, flowy puff sleeve number a white dress is perfect for any occasion (maybe rethink if the event is a wedding) and it is so easy to style it in a number of ways. Keep it laidback with a denim jacket and brown leather sandals.
You could also style with a leopard print jacket and lash on the gold accessories and some gold gladiator sandals or really go to town with bright pops of colour. I love a white dress styled with bright turquoise, pink or orange jewellery. There’s just something so effortless about a white dress that you instantly feel more relaxed wearing one except if you’re at a children’s birthday party. Beware of sticky hands!
